The Mindset Myth That’s Keeping You Stuck

Why positive thinking won’t make you successful—here is what actually will

If you’ve ever been told to “just think positive,” you’re not alone. It’s one of the most overused, surface-level pieces of advice in the personal development world. And I get it—on the surface, it sounds logical. If negative thinking keeps you stuck, then positive thinking should move you forward, right?

I used to believe this too.

I spent years trying to “think my way” into confidence, success, and ease. I repeated affirmations. I visualised my dream life. I tried to reframe every self-doubt into something positive.

And yet… very little change, very slowly.

Sure, I had moments of motivation, but deep down, I was still battling the same patterns. The same fears. The same limits.

I would still spent too much time battling my self-talk, overthinking situations and getting emotional over things that really shouldn't of mattered to me that much.

That’s because positive thinking—on its own—doesn’t rewire deep identity blocks. And if you don’t shift those, no amount of mindset work will change your actual reality.

Let me explain.

Why "Thinking Positive" Won’t Break Your Patterns

If you’ve ever caught yourself spiraling in self-doubt and thought, I just need to think more positive, you’re falling into the same trap I did.

Here’s why it doesn’t work:

1. Your Subconscious Doesn’t Care About Words—It Responds to Identity

Your subconscious mind isn’t changed by what you say—it’s changed by what you believe to be true about yourself. If deep down, you still see yourself as someone who isn’t capable, isn’t worthy, or isn’t ready for success… no amount of affirmations will override that.

Your subconscious will filter out any evidence that contradicts your current self-image.

So if you’re repeating “I’m confident, I’m successful, I’m powerful,” but deep down you don’t believe it, your subconscious will simply reject it. And you’ll stay stuck in the same cycle.

This is why so many high-achievers hit invisible ceilings—they’re unknowingly wired to stay at a certain level of success.

2. Your Nervous System Determines What Feels “Safe”

Success isn’t just a mindset game—it’s a nervous system game.

If your body is used to operating under stress, scarcity, or self-doubt, then confidence and ease will feel unsafe to your system. And what feels unsafe will be subconsciously sabotaged.

For example, you may intentionally or unintentionally push away opportunities, procrastinate, or feel drained when you try to step into a bigger version of yourself.

When your nervous system isn’t calibrated for expansion—it pulls you back into what feels familiar.

That’s why no matter how much you “think positive,” your body still reacts the same way in high-pressure situations. The real shift happens when you train your subconscious and nervous system to hold success without resistance.

What Actually Shifts Your Reality

So if positive thinking doesn’t work… what does?

Instead of battling your thoughts, you need to change the source of your thoughts—your subconscious programming.

Here’s how:

1. Stop Forcing Affirmations—Start Using Reframes That Actually Stick

Instead of trying to convince yourself of something you don’t believe, reframe your thoughts into something that feels true but more empowering.

Old Thought: “I’m not good enough for this.”✅ Reframe: “I might feel out of my depth, but I’ve handled challenges before.”

Old Thought: “I don’t deserve this success.”✅ Reframe: “I’m learning to hold more success with ease.”

The key is to meet yourself where you are and create a bridge between where you are now and where you want to be.

2. Work with Your Nervous System, Not Against It

If success, visibility, or leadership feel overwhelming to you, your nervous system is likely wired for survival mode—not expansion.

This is why I teach breathwork and hypnosis inside my programs—because they train your nervous system to hold more success without shutting down.

Instead of forcing confidence, you can recode your nervous system to make confidence feel natural.

3. Go to the Source—Your Subconscious Identity

If you feel stuck, it’s because your current identity is wired to keep you at this level.

Your subconscious is always working to maintain your self-image. If you see yourself as someone who struggles, hesitates, or plays small… your reality will keep reflecting that back to you.

The shift happens when you upgrade your self-image at a subconscious level—so success, confidence, and ease become who you are, not something you have to force.

You Don’t Need to “Think Positive”—You Need to Rewire Your Success Blueprint

If you’ve been stuck in the same patterns, the problem isn’t your effort. It’s not that you “need to try harder” or “be more positive.”
